New Zealand is a destination that truly feels unlike any other place in the world. You’re surrounded by breathtaking views everywhere you look, breathing in pure nature-filled air, and exploring land that feels untouched. Reminiscing to last November, my husband and I looked forward to exploring this magnificent country for the first time and more importantly to celebrate our wedding.
November is usually a time to experience cooler fall weather, meaning less hours of sunlight. While on this part of the world, the Spring season is blooming with the prettiest lupin wildflowers and the sun seems to never set. (Discover and read about the story of our new Lupin Fields fragrance here!)
If there is one thing I have learned from exploring different parts of the world, it is that we tend to be products of our environment. Life can often seem too comfortable and disconnected at times. New Zealand is a place that is full of adventure and breathtaking terrain, and the locals are no different and totally reflect their environment. It was exhilarating to feel a heightened sense of adventure emerging in this country.
In honor of celebrating such a memorable moment from a year ago, it was so meaningful to create this new fragrance inspired from our wedding day and the scenery we experienced from the awe-inspiring terrain. This scent always brings a smile to my face and allows me to relive that special and more than adventurous day. We truly hope it resonates and can carry on a different story and memories with others!
The afternoon before our wedding day, we took a long scenic drive and started experiencing not so pleasant food poisoning symptoms. In the early morning hours before our wedding, we spent it in the hospital. Thinking back to what might have caused it, we guess it had to be their local eggs, since they aren’t massed produced and kept at room temperature (sharing for any future bride!) Looking back to that day, and as horrible as we might have temporarily felt, it truly felt like such a spiritual cleanse. We saw each other feeling our absolute worst and hours later at our best.
Weddings often tend to be stressful and can take away from the actual important moment between you and your mate. While laying in the hospital bed next to my hubby I told him, “I know we planned this wedding over a year ago, but the universe always laughs every time we try and make plans, I mean just look at us right now and where we are! This day is so special and important to me, but I look forward to spending everyday for the rest of my life with you, it’s not just about this one particular day.” We’ve done the entire wedding routine in our own unique way anyways! We legally married each other two years prior, exchanged our rings in Iceland the following year, and after deciding how to coordinate our actual wedding day, it felt right for us in 2019 to exchange our vows in New Zealand. It’s made us appreciate the process and timing of doing all of it in our own unique way that truly reflects the both of us.
We thankfully partially recovered thanks to the kindest hospital staff and we managed to find the strength to carry on with our wedding. We toured New Zealand by air, (how we first met traveling in flight) and read our vows standing on top of a mountain while overlooking Coromandel Peak. We spotted and landed at a hidden waterfall and drastically within what felt like minutes walked the highest peak of a freezing glacier. New Zealand truly has every type of scenery you could ever imagine, where a waterfall that is pouring water one day could be dry the next!
Upon returning and finishing what already felt like such a venturesome day, we wanted to have photos taken among the beautiful blooming lupin fields that grow wild in the area. Our photographer was on the hunt for the perfect spot and under estimated the amount of water across the river toward the lupin flowers and suddenly all we saw was water over the top of the windshield! We were stuck in 4 feet of water and suddenly the car started flooding with water! Luckily someone nearby was nice enough to rescue and pull us out but unfortunately that was the end of our photographers car. (Watch the video below to see all the action!)
It was all meant to be and it’s a story we will always remember that we can’t wait to share with our kids one day. New Zealand will always hold a special place in my heart and it’s been such a blessing to look back on our time spent there.
I normally don’t share any of my personal life through social media, but I decided I wanted to tell the story behind our products and give a glimpse of our wedding day and video we made ourselves to share the adventurous and exquisite New Zealand Terrain.
This fragrance radiates with the clarity of crisp bergamot and granite accord. Essence of rich oud adds character to dry and intensely woody, santal. Its marriage of vintage jasmine and warm golden vetiver bring intensity and depth for him and for her.
11/23/20 "I feel so blessed to have found the kind of love some wait their whole lives searching for. Now I see it all clearer, you’re my mirror, my healer, my greatest teacher in this life. What we create I couldn’t find without your light.”
